Counting Money

This week in 2nd grade we are continuing to learn about money. We are learning to recognizing the coins and know their names and values.  We are learning to add them up and graph  with them.

For example:  What do 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 3 pennies cost?

Prior to this week we learned how to estimate the costs of various objects.
For example:  Would a pencil cost about 1 cent, 10 cents or 5 dollars?

What did you do this weekend?

Some of our second graders had Miss Hollingsworth in Kindergarten.  She got married on Saturday.  Now her name is Mrs. Williamson.  She was a beautiful bride.

Mr. and Mrs. Williamson
Mrs. McLaughlin, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Fink, Mrs. Walker, and Miss Willard went to the wedding.

What did you do this weekend? Part 2

After Miss Hollingsworth's wedding Mrs. Walker and her husband went to Baylor University in Waco to watch a football game.  Baylor won the game 49-26.  Colleges have lots of fun traditions.
The Baylor band made the shape of Texas.
Bruiser is Baylor's mascot.
Lots and lots of students ran out on the field.
Baylor played Iowa State.
Baylor flags run across the field when they make a touchdown.

What We Learned About Insects

We learned a lot about insects in second grade.  We would like to share our knowledge.  We all made tree maps to organize our writing.  We are also learning how to write main idea, details, and an ending sentence.

By Melanie G
Insects have to have food to eat or they will die.

By Daneyra
I learned how insects grow.  They grow by stages.  The stages are egg, larva, pupa, and adult.

By Celine
This tree map is about insect body parts.  Some insects have 4 or 2 wings on their body.  Insects might have antennas and they might not.  All insects have 6 legs on their body.  Insect body parts are: head, thorax, and abdomen.  Insects are all not the same.  Some have spots, stripes, even patterns!

An insect has 6 legs and sometimes they have wings to fly.

By Francisco
Insects have 2 wings.  There are 4 stages.  They are egg, larva, pupa, and adult.

By Brooklyn
This tree map is about the body parts of an insect.  Insects have 6 legs.  Sometimes insects have 2 wings.  Some have 4 wings.  The three body parts are head, thorax, and abdomen.  Some insects have antennas.  Some do not.   I think most insects have antennas.  This is about insects.

By Alex N
Insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts and antennas.

By Michael
Insects have antennas, 6 legs, and 3 body parts.

By Drake
I'm writing this because I need to learn about insects body parts.  How many wings does a dragonfly have?  They have four because they are an insect.  How many legs does every insect have?  They have 6 legs.

By Josslyn
This tree map is about insects.  Insects have six legs.  Insects have two wings.  Insects have 3 body parts.   Insects have 2 antennas.  Insects have the same body parts.

By Tanea
This tree map is about the different parts of an insect.  All the insects have 6 legs.  Some insects have 4 wings or 2 wings.  All the insects have 3 body parts.  All have two antennas.  All of the insects have the same parts.
