Internet Safety

By Mrs. Fink's Class

This week we have been learning about internet safety.

If someone you don't know sends you an email message, you should ask a parent to block them.

If you put a picture on the internet you can't take it back.

Don't show anyone your password except your parents.

Don't talk to people online that you don't know about.  What you can do is talk to family and friends and people that you have met in person.

When you go on the internet, don't log on to other people's stuff.

Only go to websites that your parents say you can go.

Don't download stuff that you're not supposed to.

If you follow all these rules you can be safe on the internet.

Regrouping

By Mrs. McLaughlin's Class

In class we have talked about regrouping for 4 weeks.  We know about the Manly Man Club for subtraction.

First, look for Wimps in the top right corner.  That's a little number on the top in the ones column.

Then we check for Bullies.  A bully is bigger number in the ones column on the bottom number.

If the Wimp is too small to handle the Bully, the Wimp calls the Manly Man Club to help.  The Manly Man says I'll be right over.  The Manly Man is as strong as ten men.  We add his strength to the ones column on the top.

Now we take away one Manly Man from the Clubhouse and subtract in the ones column from top to bottom.  Then go to the tens column and subtract there.

After you subtract the ones column and the tens column you have to write the answer under the numbers.

For example, 53 - 38 = 15

We had to borrow from the Manly Man Club.  The 5 becomes a 4 and the 8 becomes 18.  Then we write the answer after we subtract the ones and the tens.

The Thirteen Colonies

By Mrs. White's Class

The thirteen colonies are Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Maine, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

They had to obey the king of Great Britain.  George Washington became the first president because he won the war.  The colonists signed the Declaration of Independence so they could be free from the king of Great Britain.  They didn't want to give him any more money because they thought it wasn't fair.

Colonists are people who live in a colony.  A colony is a place that is ruled by another country.

Christmas Play

One of our students had a wonderful opportunity to be in Eastfield College's play, "Miracle on 34th Street."  Mrs. Walker interviewed Miguel and learned more about the play.

I was in "Miracle on 34th Street" at Eastfield College.

I tried out for newspaper boy, but I didn't get it.  I was a reindeer and in scene 6 where we sit on Santa's lap and tell him what we want.

To get ready for the play we had to read our scripts over and over and over.  You have to read your script.  You have to pay attention and come in at the right part.  I had to come to every single practice.  We practiced on stage.  Then the first or second times towards the opening night we couldn't bring our script up there because we had to memorize it.  We had to buy makeup.  Then it was opening night.  We had to put the makeup on and put our costumes on and that's it.

I liked most being in the reindeer pen.

Next year is going to be "Wizard of Oz".  I'm going to try out for it, too.

My sister, Sara, was Sally, in the zoo scene, and in the court scene.  She's in where we sit on Santa's lap, run to Santa, and in the parade.  She was in one more time than I was.

About the play....   Santa Claus asked the doctor what he wanted for Christmas, something that he really needed.  He said if you give me one I know you really are Santa Claus.  The next thing Santa Claus and the zookeeper meet.  They're talking about Santa Claus's sons.  Then everybody starts to look at the reindeer.
